Credit checks

Credit checks should be done where appropriate but unless the job involves handling or controlling money in some way then such checks will usually be of little value. How an employee handles their own money may have little or no influence on how they perform their job.

Licences

You should check that all relevant certificates and licenses are valid. It is amazing how often this crucial step is ignored even when it involves doctors and lawyers and other professionals whose credentials should not be taken for granted. All it takes is a quick call to the issuing authority.

Academic credentials

Sometimes I think that everyone except me lies about their academic achievements on their resume. They do it and get away with it because employers don’t include it in their employment background check procedures and if they do then it usually gets ignored. You should at least check that the qualification claimed was in fact obtained by calling the issuing body ask asking for verification.

Many but not all warrants can be found online if you know exactly where to look but there may still be some that can only be accessed offline by applying to the relevant court records office. Generally speaking it is possible for you to find your warrants for free if you are willing to spend time or money or take on a little risk. Below, I’m going to talk about how you can find important information about people or yourself and do it safely.

By far the simplest and quickest and most accurate free method of finding an arrest warrant is to ask an officer of the law. They have access to all the records so they should be willing to do a quick search for you. They might want to arrest you if they find you do have a warrant so this might not be a good move. I’m not sure if they would be very happy to look up warrants on anyone other than you either. This might be a quick way of finding warrants but it isn’t one that I could recommend in most cases.

If you go to the court records office you should be able to ask about arrest warrants. In most case it should be free to ask and there is little chance of getting arrested which makes this method viable if you know which area the warrant was raised in. If you are looking for warrants issued anywhere then you are not going to find them unless you visit every court house in the country. This is impractical as there are far too many places to visit.

Can you imagine trying to visit every courthouse in the land or even just contacting them all? It would take you forever and you would have to do it very time you wanted to do a national check. It’s not going to happen is it. You could get a private investigator to do it for you but that’s hardly going to be free is it. Contacting every courthouse yourself is going to cost you in traveling and telephone charges so not even that method is completely free.
